Janelle
Starster saw the romance between Randy and I develop. And she believed in us. That was important.
When Starster quit smoking, it was a quiet weekend. Noone was reading the list except me, it seemed. I heard this desperate voice call out "don't abandon me!" I flooded her with a pile of reposts and I held her hand. I had the feeling she could succeed at this. And she did! I think that's what this page is about -- the importance of sharing ...
So...when Randy hinted that it would nice if some friends drove up I-5 for a visit, that's just what Starster decided to do! She took a shuttle flight from San Francisco to meet Janelle in Washington State, and they drove up together to visit us in New Westminster on August 19, 1995. That was our first meeting off the smoke-free list.
We took Starster and Janelle to Shannon Falls, a glacier fed stream. We clambered up the rocks to get right up under the falls. It's a cold, wet, slippery climb. But it's worth it because it's the real thing.
The next day we went to visit Vancouver Island. We took a ferry boat ride and I got windblown.
Our first stop on the island was Butchart Gardens. Here's a picture of Randy and I parked in front of a fountain.
